My kids are a trip. Noah is turning seven in a few days. The older he gets the more he regresses. Stephen's a bad influence on him. It appears that Applied Behavior Analysis works both ways... Who knew a precocious two tear old could cause so much havoc?
Step is going to be three in a few months. Seriously. I wonder what that will be like. Little dude thinks throwing my cell phone out the window is a toddler sport. Bad enough my calculators are taking baths in the toilet but now the sound of miniature LCD television displays taking a dive has caught his fancy. It doesn't shatter. It makes a peculiar soft yet reverberating "kquish" sound when you drop one from the fifth floor. Then there's the crisp crack of impact from the casing shattering apart and electronics skipping across the roof top of the garage as a tinkle of excitement.
Makes you think something just took a bashing. There is always that strange moment of silence as if everyone in the complex paused to think WTF was that? Happens every time. (Yup. I've suffered multiple crushing, inclusive of miniature DVD players.)
Seriously. Little dude used to drop a lego block or two, but that's not fun for him anymore. Now it's cell phones. My son runs through electronics like some people run through toilet paper. I am bleeding money trying to stay wireless, on-line and entertained. I like my business toys and so does my 2.8 year old. The constant destruction is getting kind of depressing...
Hubby tried to cheer me up with a TomTom for Christmas. Didn't want me getting lost and figured I could save some paper from the map-quest fest. Turns out I'm not happy because now I have to sleep with one eye open to keep the minion blur from floating my TomTom in the toilet or sending it five flights to a spectacular doom. My GPS is a lot more delicate than my cell phone. Woe is me... TomTom should have a chat with Samsung...
I am a die hard Samsung fan. Our Samsung phones have taken numerous beatings, yet somehow managed to survive Stephen the Minion Blur.
They have floated in the toilet. They have taken a bath. They have showered. They have hidden in the toaster. They have materialized from the microwave and freezer. The first time he chucked mine out the window, we managed to find all of the pieces and snap it back together again. I was so distraught, my hubby had to do it for me and we were both amazed when the cracked phone continued to work flawlessly. Unfortunately, the last time my kid chucked my cell phone out the window it hit a patch of ice and the LCD was no more. My sound bit the dust as well and we couldn't find all of the pieces to snap it back together again. It still powered up and vibrated when ever someone called me, so I took the hubby's phone and ran to the Sprint store begging for help to save my contacts before it died completely. Problem was, if they transferred my info into his phone, he would loose his info. Bummer. I was now forced to buy a new phone, which was not in my budget. I only had $80 on me and we had $150 phones (LOL). The chick there didn't give a shit but the guy was awesome. He told the manager about my kid and the manager said I could have a phone that did all the things my old phone did for $50. I went straight for the Samsung Rant in a cool fire engine red. Mommy always has either a red or silver phone. Dad gets all the other colors (LOL).
Sprint is all digital. There is no sim card. If they steal your phone and you shut it down they can't reactivate and use it. Nice, eh? I didn't know they had wireless back up either. Didn't have it before, but I do now. It took a major effort to retrieve my contacts and I will never not back up my phone data ever again. I really believe if I had a different phone all would have been lost a couple of days ago. Sansung is amazing. I wish I knew who to talk to about making a minion proof phone... I should send them my kid to work in their testing area. I bet they'd learn a lot in one day (LOL). I can't believe my new phone has so many cool features. I added new stuff and it was cheaper than my old plan. :-)
There is a bit of irony in this. My bad little minion did a good thing inadvertently. I got a rebate that cancels out the price of the phone, I've got more minutes, a better plan and an awesome phone. There is another point of order in the irony department: I have a Samsung Rant but I don't know how to use it. Seriously! I have got to change that damn ring-tone! I'm being hip-hopped to death with this teeny-bopper whispery cool snippet of a song that is popular but so not me (LMAO). I am 43 years old getting picked up by kids thinking I'm not that old (ROTFL). Since when did ring-tones = invitation to rap? Is it me? Did I miss something vital here? Duh?
I am sitting here staring at my two fave toys that I do not know how to use. I am wondering where the hell I am going to hide them from my kids so I can go to sleep tonight. My little dudes get into everything and they will sit with my keys and try every single one because they understand that keys unlock stuff. We are freaking out trying to figure out how the two of them manage to open so many things. Maybe I should duck tape my phone and TomTom to the ceiling in a freezer bag. After all, they are both too short to reach it but will probably start jumping in the bed in their best efforts to try. They always give everything their best effort, especially when mischief and mayhem are afoot.
Parenting a PDD-NOS two tear old kid can be tough. Parenting a six year old with Autism pretending to be a PDD-NOS two year old is no joke either... You should see the two of them fighting over my new phone. They watch the Disney channel on it all the time. Sometimes it is the only way I can keep them both in the bed and focused on trying to go to sleep. Sprint TV is turning out to be their fave night light. :-)

You make me laugh. I just read your stuff and get the biggest charge out of you getting a charge out of everything in life. I love all of your LMAO stuff. I can just hear you. The minions, God bless them, they keep you on your toes for sure. Like you said, you got a new phone. No one needed the chick at the sprint store anyways. Tom Tom is a cool thing. Meyer and I are working on a new site. I will shoot you and email when we get it together.
Kids are great, eh? I think you should get the ice cream truck ring tone. I was in a store and heard it playing. When I figured out it was a ring tone I laughed hysterically!!!
Oh my goodness! God bless you! you have your hands full. I'm glad you are still laughing !! My grandkids spend one day and night and I'm worthless!! LOL!!! Glad you got a new phone ! Thanks for the laughs.
At least you have a child doing all this. I dropped my last phone in the toilet. Shouldn't have been talking there anyway.
C.,
I ran over (yes, with my Hummer) my new Instinct 2 days after my husband purchased it as a gift and had loaded in all my information (numbers, contacts, web accounts, etc) but had not signed up for the automatic back up feature nor the insurance......needless to say I am very popular in my house.....
It's amazing the things they can come up with. At least you decided to take it all in stride and laugh your way through it.
You might try using the duct tape to keep them in bed at night so you can get some sleep.
I used to let me daughter play with my car phone (13 years ago) which was bolted into the car. I would check every few minutes to make sure she wasn't calling China, but she never did. She did get a big charge out of pushing the buttons and pretending to talk or whatever 2 year olds do. Then one day, she managed to push the buttons in such a way that she activated a locking system on my phone and entering a code to unlock it. Unfortunately, since she was only 2 she couldn't "share" the code with me. I never could get that phone to work again! There was no back door into its memory. It stayed locked. period. end of phone.
Audrey, I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. Those kids either have me laughing until I can't breathe or screaming into a pillow from frustration like Lilo from Lilo and Stitch. We are constantly asking each other, "where's your phone?" "is the window open in the bedroom?" "where's your wallet?" "did you put your keys away?" (LOL)
BTW, we never did find our cordless phone. We had to buy a whole new handset (LOL).
Melodious, if I thought I could get away with it without my kids becoming confused in the house... (LOL) ;-)
Mary, I feelf for you (LOL). ;-)
Team Honeycutt, that totally whomps! When ever our phones take a dunking we don't turn them on for three days just to make sure they dry out completely. Bummer...
C - I feel for you. Sounds like you need a mattress with a secret compartment so you can actually sleep on your toys...lol. Hate to think what the boys would do if they discovered such a hiding place. It will get better, with my son I did not sleep for years since he was up all night. He is now a math major and very quiet.
Oh my word... Julie, I am so sorry to hear that. I can only imagine... I know how much info is in my phone and I was freaking out because of the records and numbers I thought I lost. The idea of not retrieving the images off of the scan disk card was devastating to me as well. Knowing that your phone accidentally got smashed, oh sweetie, I am soooo sorry to hear that. Sending you a very big virtual hug. It's hard losing a special gift from the hubby, not to mention your contact information...
Jennifer, Mike and I have been having such a hard time keeping them both in the bed at the same time. They take turns sleeping. Stephen is like the Duracell bunny. He just goes and goes... ;-)
LOL @ Denice. I bet if they ever got that idea I'd be wrapped like a mummy when I woke up (LMAO).
Carolyn, LOL, "Honey, where are the keys, are the windows open?"
Hi C, That's quite a mis adventure or rather an ongoing series of them. "They always give everything their best effort, especially when mischief and mayhem are afoot." Oh Carolyn, I do feel for you!
Lise, that has got to be the most frustrating thing. To be so close but yet so far, knowing it is a perfectly good phone but not being able to use it... Kids just have a way of sticking it to ya' without ever knowing they're really getting to you (LOL). My son Stephen will sit in the middle of a mess and clap his hands, giggling while I fuss about not ever doing it again (which usually means it will happen again within the hour).
LOL @ Audrey. If we put anything on our desk and discover it missing a minute later, we panic and start searching for it. That kid is quick (LOL). He had money lined up on the outside ledge and we were laughing about it because we were careful to crack the window under an inch so Stephen was just as careful to go find something that would fit through the slot (LMAO). Luckily for us he piled change on top of the bills. I'm sure we lost more than I found (sign). He's so cute about it too. I have to keep reminding myself, "it's the terrible twos... this too shall pass..." ;-)
This sounds serious -- you do have your hands full. Our thoughts and prayers go with you.
Bob and Carolin, I can use every single prayer. Seriously. :-)
Carolyn, I am starting to think you being master of technology and minions is getting to be a strain on you particularly as they grow older. Hang in there. You can handle it. I think : )
Gary, I am down to taking life one day at a time. :-)
C.-Wow, you really have your hands full. LOL Here's hoping you find a good hiding place for your phone. LOL
Little sister - Cute blog and hang in there with you sons, they love you dearly!
Carolyn... every time I think about the now infamous cell phone in the toaster bit I just have to laugh. See, the problem is all the stuff they drop from the 5th floor makes this really cool SPLAT CRASH sound when it hits the pavement. The good news is that keeping up with them and their antics makes real estate look easy, right? haha
C - I love reading your posts. Your kids make mine seem manageable :) You should get some sort of net or bird cage and hang it from the ceiling.
Oh my Carolyn! Just don't know how you do it all. You are amazing.
Carolyn... Either phones are getting smarter or we are getting dumber. I haven't been able to figure out which...
~~ Your building consultant in Brentwood, TN - Michael
Carolyn, This is why God lets young people have babies. Glad I had mine in the days before cell phones. I would be a basket case. It is obvioulsly you have a wonderful attitude. I'm not sure I could. How about a sock drawer with the cell phone in a sock.
hey C.. that is funny stuff... I live with my grandsons and when the now 4yr old was 2.. he was mr terrorist. Holding everything near and dear hostage for cookies. LOL. Then we learned to put stuff like cell phones on top of the refrigerator. One place he couldn't see or reach. Goodluck to you, and at least you did get a new shiny red phone. Now how cool is that? :)
C- I would seriously look at investing in a phone that has a memory card slot and copy the contact info onto one that you can back up on your personal computer as well!
C - technology and kids, made for each other. Try a gun safe for your toys.
Carolyn- the chip is a very good idea - back up everything. Another clue, my husband and partner and I had the phone company put each others phonebook on the other's phone. If one is lost or ... in my case ... smash by the rear tire of my Chevy Tahoe .... it's easy to replace in a new phone. This was much easier than re-entering the whole thing!
Carolyn, Never a dull moment in your house! I can't even relate as I did not have a cell phone when my daughter was 2. I had a "car phone"..you know, actually installed in my car but she never messed with that.I do know someone who liked to keep change in her car and her daughter thought the cd player was a nice place to drop a whole lot of that change...$150 later she got back her 80 cents!
You're Erma Bombeck!!
CTS~I'm tired just reading your post! Considering all of the patience you must have, maybe you could share a little with me?
When you figure out an adequate bob shelter-type hiding place, please let me know your secret. These two over here could destroy antimatter if given 5 minutes of unchaperoned time.
Carolyn, you certainly know how to entertain with your stories!
I was (am) a mean Mom. I told my son that my stuff is my stuff and his stuff is his stuff. He learned not to go through my purse. (I am soooo selfish that way!) LOL He tells me I am the meanest Mom of all his friends. I tell him how lucky he is 'cause ain't nobody gonna love him like I do. He just laughs.
Anyway, it sounds like you're having lots of fun so don't ever change . . .;-)
PS - have you tried window screens - or have the minions learned how to cut holes through them? HA! ;-) I am cracking up just thinking of it.
More power to you raising 2 boys let alone ones with varying levels of PDD. I'm sure life is quite the adventure. Keep on enjoying your boys. Your ability to see the humor in life will take you through the tough days.
If you find one that is child proof, oh please let me know!!
Laura, I came home tonight and could not find the box to put my TomTom back in (LOL). My kids also made off with two sim cards and all of the fire wire cables. I have an inspection I need to upload and can't plug my phone in to retrieve the photographs... The boys are going to really make life very interesting down the road. ;-)
Big Brother, I am going to chill with the little hooligans the best way I can. The older the get, the more hopeful I become (LOL). Wishful thinking, eh? ;-)
LOL @ Jesse. Who are you telling! Little dude is on a serious mission (ROTFLMAO).
Wow... I'm tired just reading your post! I hope your cell phone survives! My 8 month old's favorite toys are the remote and my cell phone. I bought her a toy remote and cell phone but NO, that's not good enough. She wants Mommy's. She got her hands on my phone yesterday and it was so drolled up that I had to pop the battery off and let it dry out for a couple of hours! Sounds like it'll only get better from here!! ~A:)
LOL @ Alisha. They only want what you want and know the difference between the toy and the important one. :-)
My kids have high-jacked my TomTom (LOL). Now there fave question is, "Where am I?" (LMAO)
Carolyn, Your stories always make me laugh right out loud! I remember when my now 24 year old son poured my very expensive perfume in the toilet...Glad I didn't have a cell phone then. Thank goodness for Sprint - for sure! Their $99/mo Simply Everything Plan is Simply Marvelous, isn't it! I have a RED Blackberry Curve, which also has Sprint navigation (although I'm not sure how to use it yet!) My darling husband is always dropping his phone into something or another (he fishes alot). We put the phone in a bag of rice - it dries it out quickly! We just got him a new waterproof, rubber edged Sprint phone and bought the $7/mo insurance plan - which includes water submerging. You may want to check into that!
LOL @ Teresa. A water submerging plan, eh? That is soooooo useful! ;-)
C-
Can we hijack this one? Funny but, it would be an IDEAL one to hijack--it's about resonding to EACH comment on your posts!!!! heehee...

BTW--I forgot to say that you CRACK me up with your goings-on in your house! Never a dull moment--I'll bet you sleep SO good when you finally get to bed at night!?
LOL @ Debe. I am so re-jacking that high-jack (LMAO). Off to play with Mr. Banana Head. ;-)
