I am really starting to think so. Seth Godin has me convinced that an ActiveRain Group is a movement waiting to happen. We are a highly leveraged set of Tribes connected by A/R, Twitter, Skype, E-mail, Facebook and every other technological tool that brings us together to connect and effect change. You may not think that you, as an individual member, can or has effected change, but you have. You do it every single day.
Each one of you, through your blogging, through talking about the things that you believe in, your likes and dislikes, have been truly a remarkable force of change because each time someone views your work you have planted a seed, a thought, a concept that wasn't there before or thought of exactly the same way that you think about it.
One person, just one, can make a huge difference... You already have the skills to do what you need to do (you are typing), you just have to start wondering what it is that you want to do.. (There is a huge difference between wants and needs.) It is time for you to start defining your personal brand. Your business brand and personal brand are two different things. The Internet gives each of us the same opportunities to publish and be found so you may not be taking full advantage because you have not included blogging as part of your business/personal plan.
Marketing changes everything and Internet marketing has global ramifications. Do you want to expand your territory? Do you want to be known for something other than a market report? Then stop doing what you always do and do something different. Leverage the power of your group associations and make things happen to better someone's position in life. Care deeply about you, your personal life and your work, then care just as deeply about your co-members in your groups. Marketing is the act of telling a story and everyone loves a good story so how you express yourself influences and engages people. How you promote the work of another does not just promote that person, it promotes you.
Ever notice that no one forwards a boring YouTube Video or lame e-mail joke? Think about it. People engage when you touch them with an internal/emotional connection. When you blog and deliver value, the work that you do will spread and get featured. Members eager to engage in conversations will find you. People will care about your ideas that you are willing to develop in your blogs to the point where they will jump in and try to help you succeed. Imagine what you can do beyond what you do for a living (while making your living) if you expand upon this simple principle... Doing nothing will not increase the chance that you will be selected for anything.
The real power of Tribes are the people who have the desire to make something happen.
What do you guys want to make happen today?

I love the way you make going tribal sounds so pro-active! cw
Hi Carolyn, Yep, I would say that Active Rain Groups are certainly tribes just waiting to make a difference. I am about half way through Seth Godin's book. God bless,
Cheryl W, we all have charitable and professional projects we like to engage in on various levels. Blogging about our passions can inspire others. We should be pro-active. :-)
Cheryl G, I finished Tribes. Very cool... the art of giving a platform for the spreading of ideas... I love that!
Deborah, looking forward to connecting every single day. There are a lot of nice people in the Rain. :-)
Well, I do want to make something happen soon. I'm taking my time to look around! lol
Hello lovely, sounds good. Looking forward to seeing what type of project you cook up for us to get busy with. I remember how organized your garage was (LOL). Lizette, knowing you, when you finally do pick one it will be very interesting. :-)
Carolyn,
Whoooo is Seth Godin??? Thanks, Fran
Fran, are you turning into Paul? I rmember when Paul would only write, "what is Localsim?" (LOL) Here is the wiki on Seth Godin. Enjoy! :-)
I never thougt of AR as being tribes, but I can see that... I do like seeing people connect though...
Hmmm - Tribal movement -never really thought about it that way, but we are all here, meeting people, networking and a group movement wouldn't be too out of the question...
Nice blog C.
Carolyn, Really like your post and the similarities showing how AR is a Tribe. Many Active Rain members are already leading Tribes. Thnak you for your support with the promotion of my book.
Michael, I latched onto the concept the moment I listened to Seth's audio e-book. Very cool concept and the theory fits us exceptionally well.
Thank you, April. We certainly put the group into movement a couple of days ago with very nice results. I'd love to see us coordinate more charitable works between the fun stuff. There are quite of few of us active in that department and a little support from your friends can go a long way in making a difference in someone else's life. You guys have certainly changed mine (LOL). It's only fair that I try and pay it forward. :-)
Margaret, thank you for your kind words and you are very welcome. I hope you can do a little video or photo shoot of your first book signing so we can see. I am sooooo into eye candy! :-)
Carolyn,
Thanks for the link!!! Depressingly and discouragingly...I HAVE NO WIKI...!!! :^( Thanks, Fran
Oh my word, Fran, how can you not wiki things? (LOL). Wiki isn't perfect, but it is fun and will point you in the right direction of where to look for more information. :-)
Hi C: I never thought of AR that way... but your thoughts are very intriguing as usual.
Cheryl P, it's a completely new concept to me and I am having a field day with it. I am blogging to Seth's audio download. I've internalized a lot of his marketing themes and enjoy absorbing what is useful. He provides a lot of excellent illustrations that I'm sure a lot of us could use to improve our marketing strategies.
C - unfortunately, what I need to make happen today get's in the way of what I want to make happen. Tommorow is our leaf & limb pick up and I have to get the yard cleaned. But what I want to do is sit here and write witty, catchy and entertaining posts that gets reblogged all over the internet. But as the song goes, I have dreams. And Oh my dreams It's never quite as it seems
Big Mike, how very cool. I haven't heard that song in a long time. :-)
Hi C - great post about sharing and connecting with each other. I have to read Seth's book.
Thank you, Sharon. You will definitely enjoy it. I know that I did.
Richard, I know exactly what you mean. My on-line family and friends are just as important to me as my brick and mortar relationships. :-)
Richard, I can vouch for that. You would think that my wife and Melodious were twins seperated at birth the way they carry on.
I hear Mel brought a WII... I wasn't going to go to TX but Mel brought a WII. How can I not bring it on? I am sooooo kicking your butt in tennis when I get there. You're gonna need more meds when I get through with you Miss Melly-Mel! C has nothing on me! You're going down, shorty! I'm bringing my sleeping bag. I have dibs on the couch. I rarely blog but we will blog about this! Mark my words! I want a Mixpo video of this! Bring Amanda Hall. Us KINGS and going to take you CC QUEENS down... [ P.S. Tell your husbands to practice and not embarrass me. (LOL) ]
I guess this means I will have to buy a WII... How much are they, anyway?
Thank you, Linda. :-)
Lisa, you are very welcome and thank you for your kind words. :-)
I thought about this post when the servers were down. We pulled together in Twitter and had a lot of fun while dealing with our blogging angst. Very cool.
