The Sunset of a Lovely Evening

The beautiful thing about sunsets is that no two are ever the same. I like to think of them as God painting in the heavens every single day. In order to catch the best effects you always have to start planning to snap your photographs one hour before sundown. If you are not in position, you will truly miss some fantastic lighting effects. The hour and a half before sun up and sun down has got to be my all time favorite two times of the day to be a photographer and artist.

The beautiful thing about friendships is that no two are ever the same. I was very fortunate to be on location in Port Jefferson with Kathy P when I took this picture. We share a very unique relationship and have converted our on-line friendship to brick and mortar. I was very honored that she took the time to select areas of Port Jefferson for us to tour that she thought my family and I would enjoy. We had a wonderful time and I'm hoping to go back for a weekend to sketch and eventually paint the docks. The wonderful thing about being a Realtor is the connections you get to make with people. I'm going to talk more about my friend in depth and introduce you to her blog. Stay tuned for a new minion update with more photographs of our visit with KP.

In the meantime, here is a little Port Jefferson, Long Island Sound sunset eye candy captured during our AR road trip to visit Kathy. Enjoy!

C... These pictures look wonderful, and peaceful at the same time.  I can only imagine in person must of been 10 times better.

Valerie, it was great visiting there. I have never seen the Long Island Sound or visited Port Jefferson before. It truly is a very interesting area and I am looking forward to going back with the kids to see and learn more about it. I especially would like to tour the art galleries. :-)

Elaine, I have every intention of coming to CA and am happily anticipating several Pacific sunsets with my friends. You must make a list of things for us to do in your neck of the woods. Foodie paradise spots are very high on my agenda. (LOL)

Carolyn, Kathy chose a lovely place, it is one of my favorite towns....and your pictures are captivating!   I'm glad so many people get to see something really special on Long Island.

Jane, you are very welcome. Thank you for the kind words, they are very much appreciated. :-)

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 10 years ago

Carole, one of these days you are going to have to pick a nice spot for me to come check out. I know so little about Long Island. Kathy picked a really neat place to visit and I can't wait to bring the boys back again. Noah really liked the playground near the docks and there was something lovely to see every place we walked. I wish we had more time, but am grateful for the time we did share. The kids love being outside and I like to accommodate them as much as possible. :-)

Carolyn, not California when Oregon is so much prettier. LOL. Remember, we have the Pacific here too, but it is too cold to swim in. Great pics, thanks for sharing.

Fred, I can't swim worth a lick and I really need to learn how to do that. My kids are water rats! (LOL) Oregon sounds lovely. I am soooo looking forward when Mike retires! 3.5 months to total freedom! What a beautiful thing... :-)

Love me some eye candy, C.  These must have looked amazing in person.  You did a great job capturing them on "film".  :)

Carolyn, sunsets and sunrises, are so much a matter of timing and the weather to get a good shot. You did very well with these and I am glad you and Kathy P got together.

Carolyn ~ Those pictures really did come out nice!  Too bad those damn seagulls wouldn't cooperate! : )  I'm glad you liked the area and hope you will come back to check it out further.

C - I love sunsets also, and it's finally getting to the time of year when I can be awake enough to appreciate sunrise (how can God have created such a beautiful thing as a sunrise at the ungodly hour of 5 A.M.?) Great eye candy and it sounds like you, Kathy & the Minions had a great day.

Posted by Mike Saunders (Lanier Partners) about 10 years ago

Great pictures C.  I looks like everyone had fun that day.

Morning C,

Great photos. I especially love the sunset! Glad you had a nice time. You sure know how to make the most of life. Good for you!

Posted by Harold "Hal" Place (A1 Connection Realty, Inc.) about 10 years ago

Kathy, I will definitely be coming for another visit and very soon. I'm glad you like the way the pictures came out.  I was pleasantly surprised when I finally did  download them from my camera. Sometimes that little viewfinder doesn't truly reflect what you've got until they are enlarged. I'm with you on those damn birds. I could not catch one single gull. Remarkable. I have better luck catching the Minion Blur escaping than a L.I. gull. Who would have thought that was possible? (LMAO) I must be getting really old. My reflexes are off (LOL). I need a gym membership. Seriously! :-)

Mike, we had a wonderful visit. I'm glad you enjoyed the eye candy! :-)

Morning Hal, thank you for the compliment. I'm taking a page out of my Dad's book - he has fun every single day, so I'm trying to make it my business to stop long enough to enjoy something. Sometimes just the anticipation of doing something special, or going somewhere I've never been before, has a very pleasant effect on my outlook and emotions. It's fun planning play dates for the little minions. They are always surprised by seeing new things and their little minds start working in overdrive when they attempt to take it all in. Stephen's instructors have noticed that he is very observant and more attentive. Six months ago he wasn't making eye contact with people. Now, he grabs you by the head and wrings your neck to make you look at him and he stares you down while giggling and talking gibberish. Once in a while he throws a phrase at you and we all start clapping and celebrating the fact that he actually spoke in English (LOL). Little Dude is coming along nicely with his speech sessions but has a long way to go. :-)

C, I love your analogy to a sunset being God's painting - what a beautiful way to look at it!

Carolyn, It is SOO EARLY for crying this morning!  I love love love your pictures, especially the one with your son (is that right, he's your son?) in it.  They really touch my heart this morning.  Thank you so much for sharing.

Beautiful Photos! Makes me want to travel! Love the boats and the water...I live in the Brazos Valley  no eye candy like that around here. I don't think my kiddos have ever seen sea gulls. ;)

Posted by Raylene Lewis (Century 21 Beal, Inc.) about 10 years ago

CTS- I am always amazed at the number of things you pack into your day.  Your suitcase must be huge.  Impressive pictures - for sure.  Looks like you and Kathy had a great time.  Must have been nice to finally see each other FACE to FACE.  You should get in front of the camera sometime, eh?  KM

Posted by Kristin Moran, San Antonio,TX - Real Estate - 210-313-7397 (Owner - RE/MAX Access - KristinMoran@Remax.net) about 10 years ago

Raylene, you have eye candy all around you. Don't leave home without your camera and start looking at your surrounding as if they were a painting you would love to see painted, then paint with your digital camera.

Eye candy is a very personal thing. It's what is beautiful to you. I love getting to see the world through other peoples eyes. It may take you a while to develop your photographer's eye, but we all have one. We all know that exact moment we think something is beautiful. It is an intangible feeling only the person experiencing it can recognize. If you are lucky enough to capture that moment in time, then you've done what you set out to do and your mind will always be positively triggered by the visuals that cue the memory.

Go on, try it... you will never look at life the same way again. You will start to see how wonderful textures and colors can be in the most simple of things. Still life, landscape, seascape, cityscape. A flower in your own backyard... It can be anything you find interesting that you want to share. I bet if you laid in the grass on a particularly cloudy day and did nothing but shoot the clouds at sunset you'd make beautiful eye candy with your camera for the rest of us to share... :-)

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 10 years ago

Kristin, I promise I will set the camera on timer one of these days. I love being behind the camera and am a lot like Kathy when it comes to avoiding being in the photograph. I always want to be the one taking the pictures. I'm glad you enjoyed the eye candy. We had a great time and I am looking forward to our next get together. :-)
