This series of residential tours is inspired by my girlfriends Elizabeth Weintraub (of Sacramento) and Poppy Dinsey (of London, UK). The Weintraub Gallery features her favorite Land Park Homes in Sacramento (About.com), while Poppy D (Zoomf) takes us on an eclectic tour of her neck of the woods in "A Walk Around London England."
In "A Cactus Flower Blooms For Only One Day" Elizabeth makes some interesting analogies regarding missing your moment if you wait too long to purchase the home of your dreams (while providing a little cactus eye candy). In "Are You As Green As You Can Be?" her talking points include what people can do to help reduce our carbon footprints and be eco-friendly. She poses an interesting question at the end: "What do you do to be green?"
You should also check out Sondra's Snapshots. Sondra Meyer is an expert on College Station, TX and takes us on a wonderful tour of things to do and places to see. She never leaves home without her camera so if you are into eye candy, like me, then you will enjoy visiting Sondra's blog. In "What Is Behind A Name?" we are introduced to the sculptures of Payne Lara who "worked in conjunction with landscape designer Larry Schueckler to create what is considered one of College Station's nicest displays of public art." In "What Makes Something Beautiful?" Sondra whips out her camera to showcase Hensel Park.

Good morning Don, wouldn't that be something? (LOL) I do enjoy my turtles runs and had a wonderful experience yesterday while on my photo-shoot in Brooklyn. Someone actually recognized me from reading Localism. We had a great time talking and I made a new friend. I have every intention of maintaining the series for it makes my jogging so much more fun and people find me approachable on the street. I also met a lovely woman who works in our industry while I was photographing the Brooklyn Public Library. I gave her my card and an invitation to join Active Rain. I hope she does, then I can introduce her to Club Chaos! BTW, I am always on the hunt for more eye candy! Wait until you see the feature on Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza!
How do you get your name on the photos, C? Do you manually insert them?
Those are gorgeous photos and striking homes. I'd live in any one of them. I have a pretty cool photo of the Brooklyn Bridge from my last trip there. I will email it to you.

Hello Elizabeth and thank you! I was going to call Don with an explanation but since I now have two inquiries I might as well post the answer here. I download everything from my Nikon into an Adobe file and use the Adobe Photoshop "text tool" to type my name across each photograph that I decide to use for Localism and then "save a copy" of the original with my name on it as a "new" .jpg picture to upload. I've collected over six hundred photographs since I started jogging with my camera, but have only selected a few that I feel represent the very best of each group. Please do send me your shot of the Brooklyn Bridge. I would love to see it from your point of view.

Ah. I see, C. Well, I used to open photos in Photoshop, but it was so time consuming that I've switched to Preview. My download dock doesn't always work right, either. So, I bought a card reader, and that's much faster. Just pop in the card, plug it into the USB port and in half a second, the photos are on my desktop. I set my preferences to open them in preview. But it won't let me enter text. Greg Swann at Bloodhound told me about a watermark program, but I didn't copy it over to my new computer and can't remember where I found it now.

Hi Shirley, for my turtle walks I use a Nikon N70 with an AF Nikor 35-80mm lens (film). However, for my turtle runs, I use a digital Nikon, the Coolpix 7600 (compact, lightweight, gorgeous and fits in the palm of my hand). Additionally, if I'm in the mood for instant gratification, the digital Nikon wins hands down because the moment I pop in the the 1.0 GB ScanDisk into the card reader I know I am only thirty seconds away from enjoying some eye candy!
