Blue wood and tumbleweeds...

My fave part about hiking through the Blackland Prairie is discovering the the plants and wildlife. I seem to have a thing for blue wood. Texas has a lot of it. It weathers and discolors marvelously in the wild.

I think I'm falling in love with tumbleweeds... all those twisted twigs make for fascinating photography sessions. I keep thinking I could watercolor this and have a field day playing with cool colors and textures. I was also thinking I could pen and ink it first, then create a mixed media painting...

I think I'm going to be sketching and painting a lot of landscapes while I'm here. I have a couple of portraits in progress already.

Yup. It's true. I'm still a gawking New Yorker running amok in the Texas flatlands, bogs and prairie. I bet I could create an entire gallery show based upon my incessant roaming of Texas lakes. I've already filled an entire 8-Gig simm card with Texas landscapes and have two more to go before I hit Florida. I may be doing a stop over in Shreveport Louisiana next (I have friends there - silly grin).

Right! Got to love those thickets!

From a distance that's where the rabbits play and the snakes feed.

Bill, it's gorgeous (and I watch out for copperheads every step of the way - silly grin). ;-)
