A Q&A on Facebook - Are you ready for this new bit of irritation?

I quote:

"What happens to my old group when it gets archived? When your old group gets archived, it will be converted to the new groups format. Almost everything from your old group will be available in the archived group, with a few exceptions. Things that will be available in the archived version include: Group photos and Wall posts Group discussion threads, which become Wall posts The group description, which can be found at the top of the page when you click "See All" members in the new group."

Things that will NOT be available in the archived version include: Recent news Group officer titles The info box under the old group picture The group network The members of your old group. You can still add new members by clicking "Add Friends to Group."

Psst... Facebook... I HATE being dragged into groups. What makes you think I'm going to sit there and drag people back into my friggin' group Club Chaos @ ActiveRain.com group? I have NEVER dragged a single person into any group on Facebook.

Feel free to rejoin when they whack our old groups guys. I am not dragging a single soul into the converted new format group. I can't even stand the thought of it. I really can't... I hate when people do it to me. I hate having to un-join stuff I didn't join.

Seriously...

I hear you... I can not stand it as well... Why do we need groups anyways...

Stephanie, it's just another virtual place to get together and play. It's like a virtual water cooler moment where you can stop to share and chat about anything with your friends. I do not understand why the original members can't stay where they are, coming and going at will. Why make people drag other people into a group? What ever happened to inviting them and letting them come on their own. Duh? (LOL)

C...

I think it's a way to take advantage, and not a way to make friends, that's for sure.

"With a few exceptions "... like your members. I am a member of a small fan group that is in danger of getting archived ... and it makes me want to kick Zuckerberg's skinny nerd a$$ ... BIGTIME.   (I am rather fond of that little group of people and no, nobody in that group has abused the "dragging other people in" function -- the problem is a number of them will probably never get around to re-joining).

I didn't realize you had a Club Chaos group!

Richard, I'm not happy about this at all... It is very inconvenient.

Cheryl, I know what you mean. I am fond of several small groups... I have no idea which ones are converting.

When I go to a group and see "This group is scheduled to be archived", I swear, it makes my blood boil.  And I'm pretty easy going, really....

Posted by Cheryl Johnson about 7 years ago

Cher, the phrase "scheduled to be archived" makes the cartoons in my head feel as if they are being dragged kicking and screaming into a virtual nursing home where the visitors are all told ahead of time to go away...

It seems like everytime I figure something out they change it.  I need a teenager to help me along!

Lisa, I steal my neighbor's kids all the time (LOL). Noah the Net Geek is great for opening screens I have no idea what to do with. He's getting very good with the computer. ;-)

Here's what I did.

I am not an Admin of the little group I am concerned about.  And I don't want to keep bombarding the Admin with messages in case he has decided he doesn't care anymore.

So I sat down and copied by hand!! With a pen!!! In a notebook!!!! The names of all the group members.  If everything goes totally South, I now have an analog record of the members.

Next I'll copy group photos and stuff and save them on my computer.

So I could (in theory) rebuild everything from scratch if it comes to that.....

Posted by Cheryl Johnson about 7 years ago

Cher, the simplicity of that is brilliant. It would not kill me to make a list of members because it's a small group with less than 100 people. :-)

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 7 years ago

C, Sounds like we have similar situations.  The little group I want to preserve has 138 members.  And since I'm still here, the little exercise did not kill me.  In fact, it was interesting.  :-)

[Psst... Facebook... I HATE being dragged into groups.]

Never been much of a joiner and I sure as hell am not an involuntary joiner. :)

Cher, I actually started re-connecting with people I haven't directly spoken to in a while. That's one positive thing that has come from this. :-)

Candice, irks me to no end getting my bloggers butt virtually dragged around against my digital will (LOL).

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 7 years ago

I can't believe we can get put into groups without our permission. I was put on an alumni group for Michigan.  I did not go there and don't care what their alumni are doing.  Oddly enough, my  husband did go there and he was not dragged in.

Posted by Coral Gundlach, Real Lives. Not Just Real Estate. (Compass) about 7 years ago

Coral, once a week I have to go to FB groups and check my list. I usually know something is up when I start getting strange e-mail notification alerts from people I don't know posting into groups I don't use. Oh well... such is social media life, eh? :-)

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 7 years ago

UPDATE:

Both of the two little groups I was so worried about have now successfully ported to the new format without losing members.  WOOOO HOOOO!!

In fact, this is making me soooo happy this morning, I am getting a little concerned about my own ... ahhh... mental health... :-)

Posted by Cheryl Johnson almost 7 years ago

ROTFLMAO @ Cher. Now I have to go log into Facebook. ;-)
