Judge doesn't approve Google's $125 million digital library settlement

Sometimes we do things because we mean well... Sometimes, when we apologize and agree to settle our differences regarding a series of copyright violations a judge can come along and simply say, "No."

There are good reasons for the legal ruling that resulted in the settlement being rejected. There are also interesting reasons available for starting a new round of negotiations. I'm sad that the authors who were about to be compensated a decent amount of money for the unauthorized use of their books are going to have to wait a while longer as the issues continue to get sorted out...

Intellectual property is valuable. Your blogs, your films, your photographs - all of it. When a huge powerhouse like Google can be spanked for violating each individual author, imagine the equal protection under the law justice that can be brought to a bloggers doorstep for stealing photographs, music or the writings of others...

Create your own content and protect it because each post is valuable. It's something you've taken the time to give birth to so people who visit your website can learn something new about what you want to share today.
