Life With Wee People: Work Is The New Play... Minion Driving 101

Life With Wee People: Work Is The New Play... Minion Driving 101

Noah and Stephen Starr go to Papa and Nana's house in SC to visit the Little Minion Fields and learn how to drive a tractor. If you buy your shorties acres they have to learn how to cut the grass. Planting seeds of responsibility can be mad fun if you are very careful... My kids are car crazy so teaching them how to drive in the Little Minion Fields is always a neat treat. Watching my Dad teach them to drive a tractor in his 1.4 acre backyard? Priceless...

Yeah... I know... this from the chick who was introduced to power tools by her grandad at the tender age of not quite six (LOL). My Mom's father was an awesome master carpenter who instilled in us a healthy respect for "useful equipment." Teaching wee people how to do useful stuff at a young age is a family tradition.

Parenting is a adventure your kids should love... I did a lot of neat stuff before I was ten so I have no intention of being stingy now that I have kids (LOL).

Yeah... it's true. I'm having a second childhood with them. Safety first people. Don't casually try this at home. It's a life lesson not a stunt. You have to know your children and really understand their learning curves to introduce concepts and skill points to them. You also have to know your equipment and plan your fail safe responses. Curious kids who want to try and help should be given the opportunity to learn in a safe environment. It is amazing what they can do if you give them the opportunity, confidence and support to do it. Something as simple as cutting the grass can lead to bigger and better learning experiences... ;-)

It looks like your dad was having as much fun as they were!  I cannot believe how big they are getting.  To be honest, I was nervous the whole time.  It's a mommy thing.

That's how it starts!

My wife tells stories of driving her Father's John Deere along side hay bales while her Father loaded them on the wagon she was towing.

Nothing for a farm kid?

She was threeand at the end of each pass her Father had to jump on the tractor, pull the hand clutch, stop the rig, take over to turn it around.

It's as great life! I hope you kids see allot of their Grandparents.

My 5 year old nephew and 3 year old niece can't reach the controls but they sure love sitting on Uncle Chip's lap to drive!  I get off on the look on their faces - much like those of your boys.

Oh C- I loved every second of that.  My own PAPA let me plow the rows in his garden on his tractor when I was a girl.  Under 9, because that's when we moved from just down the street.  And hearing your dad laugh with your Noah and Stephen made me remember the joy of my own PAPA who passed when I was just 14, which was a long long time ago.  Thanks for sharing your boys experience and bringing back some wonderful memories of my own.

Hi guys! This was one of my fave vacation moments. Will post two more today. I have been running amok making up two weeks worth of work. My e-mail is still out of control. I haven't made up my mind if that is a good or bad thing (LOL). :-)
