Life With Wee People: Green Urine... Talk about a colorful distraction...

The weird thing about being sick is if your body does something strange you sort of instantly chuck it up to your illness without thinking twice about it. Then one morning you wake up to discover one of your kids left Leprechaun pee in an un-flushed toilet and you start freaking out because no one bothered to explain to you that food dye absorbed by your kidneys will pass through your urine.

If you have been indulging in blue park ices to excess, then yes, blue dye plus yellow urine equals green pee (LOL).

However, being ignorant of this fact and freaking out because my urine was also a strange day-glow hue of unnatural proportions, I drove a few experts crazy while freaking out about possibly passing along some  strange virus to my children.

Now that we know we are all okay we are off on a photo-shoot in Brooklyn. Will bring you guys some NYC eye candy later. We are going to hang out at Stephen's fave Queens Blvd spot for breakfast. Shorty loves to announce that "the train is in the grass." We also have to post some VA shots. We are a wee bit overdue for that...

Yes... they were thrilled to piss strange colors into the bowl and very proud to announce each time they had to go pee. Seems they needed an audience to be on hand for the green urine show (LOL). ;-)

Carolyn, having a five year old about to turn six, I will mention your story to my wife, who tends to extreme reactions when anything with Alec is out of the ordinary ;-

Must go experiment now!  In the name of science, of course . . .

Wordy,

At leaset you did not indulge in asaragus with dinner, then you would have smelly green pee, you know it was Ben Franklin who discovered the connection between asaragus and smelly pee. Wait is this appropriate conversation for a Sunday morning.....Have a great day

CTann - that's hillarious... Thankfully, i learned the food-dye=all sorts of interesting pee colors lesson a long time ago:-)  That first time was pretty priceless though.

Nothing like a little science experiment to keep the kids interested in nature.  You can use this as bait to get them to eat their veggies. As noted above regarding asparagus but beets can also do a little dyeing and I am sure they can find other ways to have fun with food...

Josef, definitely looking forward to it. Today's afternoon experiment will be focused on shades of orange (LOL).

ROTFL@ Ann. There's irony in that statement (LOL). ;-)

Don, the kids are the boss of me. I have been indulging their park whims. They threw my laundry change in a fountain at Central Park then got upset when I told them the change had to stay (LOL).

LOL @ Inna. There is nothing like your first time, eh? ;-)

Gerry, I may have to get some because now I am mad curious about this (LOL).

LMAO @ William. There is that, eh? :-D

Going green, going blue, planning to turn all shades and hues. Margaret, my boys have found the science bug. We have fun grocery plans this evening with the help of a few friends. :-)

Richard, we can hang (LOL). Science should be fun. :-)

Hahahahahaaaaa! Val, you have completely cracked me up. Oh, the possibilities with this one (LOL).

Chris, you may want to have her stay tuned for our next ices assignment (LOL). I'm wondering  how far we can go with this. The kids were disappointed to see it back to yellow this morning (LOL). :-)

Gary, I must confess I never thought about it and was completely clueless it was even possible.

Too funny, suprised you didn't google it or do a 'what's up' post.  I bet the 'going green' groups would have some fun with this.  cw

One of the most interesting titles for a post I've seen in awhile!  Who knew...green pee?  I had no clue and I've had three kids.  Sounds like you had a wonderful day with your special guys.
