Swimming in the Rain takes BALLS - deal with it...

My gal pal Inna Hardison ROCKS! I love plain spoken people. She was kind enough to make this  availale for a re-blog. Enjoy! :-)

A rather common way to teach someone to swim where I grew up was to throw the subject off the shore or a boat and watch as the child sank, terrified.  Some paddled their way out on the first try and were fine from that point on, others were pulled out by their ‘teachers' and got dropped right back in.  It was not a practice I condoned, especially when attempted on me, but it sure as hell made me desperately want to learn how not to sink.

In one way shape or form, at least in the era before ambassadors, most of us got sort of thrown into the waters of AR, and have been learning to swim ever since.

There are those who intuitively navigated to the shallow end, where approval of some popular member was guaranteed to be within reach, and they have played in the Rain safely ever since.  There are others that took off the life vests and dived as deep as they could reach, gasping for air, at times, on the verge of drowning, and some indeed drowned.  Those I actually remember.

The ones following with one hand always extended to the shore line, with their bland yet always within bounds of propriety and the image of perceived professionalism posts or comments- not so much.  I don't know who any of these people are, but more importantly, I am not interested in finding out.  Plainly, I don't give a shit.

Over the last week or so, the featured dash board of this sea lit up with posts that rubbed many of us the wrong way.  Posts, with whose premise the majority of the professionals on here disagreed, and then, there was a counter point or two featured to add balance to the madness.  Some of these even devolved without corporate interference to bitch-slapping sessions and gutter talk, and a few people made themselves look like total jackasses.  Kudos to AR for bringing back a bit of that long lost luster of intuitive dialogue, of honest back and forth, of, at times, sheer fun.  Of course everything has its consequences, and the price of diving too deep while lacking adequate skill can result in drowning.  The members who take these dives are aware of it and take their chances.

For those who sit on the shore and wait for someone to jump in to see if they swim the way that they approve of - get a life, or find the nearest remote control, and let the rest of us blog in peace.

My use of a few cuss words in this here post WILL NOT make you appear to anyone as a lousy real estate agent or mortgage broker.  You are the only one who can do that to yourself.  But to this here blogger - lack of courage and intellectual honesty will, as will your desire to make this organic network into something stifled.  We've been there, and it's good to have a bit of the old AR back.

Thanks for reblogging this one, C!  I did notice the feature board this past week and was thrilled to see some of the spunk and fire that makes this place so great return!  I like everyone here but don't nessecarily agree with them -- that's okay!  They don't always agree with me either - that's okay too - we DEAL WITH IT!

Aaron brought some fire to the rain, no problem here. I have many times disagreed with an author and made my opinion known, we all have our own opinions and should be able to disagree in a civil manner. No problem here

C...Having different opinions is normal.  Respectful disagreements are fine too.  Agreeing to disagree is what it is all about.

Inna - GREAT POST!  I love it and for the record, I'm a dive in the deep end type of chick (and have even been bitch slapped a few times for it).  For the most part, I don't give a rats ass what most people think of my brutal honesty and attitude (and I do have loads of it).  Some will like me and others won't.  Such is life.  Have a great holiday weekend Inna.  :)

Anna - thank you, thank you.  There was something pretty darn cool in that old spirit:-0

Donne - not giving a rat's ass is a big part of it.  I've yet to meet anyone universally liked, or hated, for that matter.  Just doesn't happen, so why waste your energies on pleasing those who don't get you, right?!  Thanks and good to meet yah...

C-  Umm, wow. I'm SO glad I never check the featured section. I just get a little surprise once in a while, when I get featured. But I have definitely noticed a turn toward the... well, what I consider to be less professional posts that are featured. I personally do not swear. I just don't. I prefer to search a thesaurus for a wide variety of words, lest I offend a potential customer. Now I am subscribed to you, and your colorful speech doesn't offend me, nor do I judge you. But there are some on here with which I absolutely want no association! To me, there's a difference between using colorful language that is amusing or adds something to the post, vs swearing just to be swearing.

When I'm writing a post, all I'm think is, is this appealing? Is it informative? Is it humorous? Does my personality shine through? Would I want to read it? Does it make the reader want to work with me? And yes, I started in the sink-or-swim days. I just jumped in. Fear was not a factor. As long as I don't come across as tacky (no class) or unprofessional, then I'll write it. If I'm unsure, then sometimes I'll go ahead and write it, and just mark it for Members Only. I like open discussions, without arguing. I hate debates! But then, I suffer from anxiety. So it doesn't take a rocket scientist to discern my reasoning!

To be honest, I disagree with many of the features posts that I stumble upon. I honestly don't understand why people can't just "share" their opinions and attempt to see from another person's point-of-view, without getting into a heated debate. I'm of the agree-to-disagree mentality. At some point, someone has to be the bigger person, show some class, and walk away. Arguing and debating don't change the mind of the other person. So what's the point? The same results can be accomplished by carefully choosing our words in a manner that "shares" our opinion, without inciting an argument.

But that's just my opinion... which is now rambling off topic  >.<

Continue with your colorful personality. It suits you. If I was offended, I wouldn't be subscribed ;-)
