Life With Wee People... It can be Heaven. It can be Hell. We are tasked as parents to teach our children right from wrong so they can know the difference and weigh the ramifications of their short and long term actions. Our children are not always our own bloodline. Sometimes, they are cyber in nature, living in our computers and playing in the World Wide Web...

When you are dealing in digital DNA, the bits and bytes of your virtual genome has a synergy that affects the dynamics of the other people at play in the electronic sandbox. When we play nice, there is balance and healthy debate. When we play naughty, the spectrum of reactions can range from mild to the sublime and on rare occasions erupt in violence.

Do you believe you will be absolved because the free speech road to hell you are traveling upon was paved with good intentions? Did you write to expose? Did you write to shock? Did you write with the thought that one day your grandchildren may be reading your posts? Are you writing because you have something to say or are you saying something so you can meet a deadline and get paid? What and who do you look to incite with your careless words? Who are you looking to trigger a response from? What type of comments are you inviting? Where do you think those comments will come from?

When you clicked on the submit button, what did you teach me today?

Did I learn a new trick? Did I learn a new fact? DID YOU REALLY EDUCATE ME? Did you teach me to love? Did you teach me to hate? Did we share a laugh? Empathy? Sympathy? Or contempt? I have to ask because some teach better than others. Some learn better than others...

Then there are those who neither teach or learn anything. You may think this an impossibility, but I assure you it is not. 'Tis highly probable and quite provable with a few key words and a search engine. I find most offenders who travel in cyberspace along the moron trajectory present with brief displays of antisocial cyber-behavior that peaks with a diatribe so outrageous their sphere of digital influence diminishes. It is fascinating to watch the pretenders crash and burn. They do it with such flair as they attack what they do not know or fully understand with a false bravado (or simply ignorance).

Viggiano whispered a missive: Now come here, closer, hurry up, come down the perimeter road with us, it’s safe more or less, we have something very important to tell you...

I shall pick up where she left off... I have something to tell you: The Highway of Self Indulgent Musing can lead many astray while you preen and beam during your arrogant attack of members struggling to survive. Those of us who work hard will never forget you as we un-subscribe from your diatribe.

Enjoy your stroll towards cyberhell.

Granny Carol says hello. I suspect a few others may have a greeting for you as well...

My blog post mini-rant therapy is done.

Carolyn, You bring up several good points, as usual. And it's not just what we say in this life but our actions as well than can profoundly affect another human being. Mini rants are good;)

Posted by Barb Szabo, CRS, E-pro Realtor, Cleveland Ohio Homes (RE/MAX Trinity Brecksville Ohio) over 11 years ago

C - I'm not sure what inspired this mini-rant, but you are on point as usual.  Every author whould know why and to whom they write.  I am sure that some people do post specifically to inspire fear, hate, anger.  However, I don't understand the rationale. Words uttered can go unheard or be forgotten.  Those put to paper or worse converted to binary code, can remain forever.  What did you teach me today? is a great question.  How do you want to be remembered? is one that should also be at the forefront of one's consiousness before hitting Submit.

BTW - I'm gonna be in NYC tomorrow.

My dad always told me "The road to hell was paved with good intentions."  Therefore I couldn't help but to open your post, although I always enjoy reading you anyway.  I hope that your post is read by those that need the lesson you imparted.  You said it very well and they can learn from your teaching.  Words to live by.

Posted by Jim Valentine (RE/MAX Realty Affiliates) over 11 years ago

Barb, I love blog post therapy. It is so much more cost effective than a shrink (LOL) ;-)

Thank you, Erik. I hope I get to see you tomorrow. That would be a neat, sweet, visit. :-)

Thank you, Jim. Your kind words are very much appreciated. :-)

What did you teach me today?

Those are words that we should all consider before posting - because no matter what the topic we are writing on is, we are teaching others about ourselves just by the nature of the words we have chosen to put to digital paper.  Are we idealistic?  Problem solvers?  Teachers?  It all comes out in our writing and leaves a legacy.  It's up to us to determine whether that legacy is one we will be proud of.

Thanks for the call last week....I felt like I'd been visited by a celebrity!

ROTFL @ Coleen. I'm just a housewife who sells real estate and occasionally misbehaves on-line. It was a pleasure chatting with you. We have to talk again soon. Enjoy your day, lovely. ;-)

Had to laugh at the title, my grandmother used to make that statement to me all the time. Of course, I think she eventually caught on to the fact that my intentions were rarely any good.

LOL @ JL. I bet you were a handful back in the day (LOL). ;-)

Carolyn - As usual you have delivered a lesson that many will never learn ... no matter how many times they see/hear it.  The sad part is that when people engage in bad behaviors on a continual basis, it makes me wonder if they ever had the opportunity to learn otherwise.  But they fail to learn ... or refuse to learn ... and that makes healthy debate and general conversation a tough thing.

I always have many things rolling around in my head ... topics for blogs, conversations I want to have, things I need to research.  And I find that I will go days, sometimes weeks without posting because what comes to mind will serve no particular purpose.  So, without purpose, I don't want to assault people's common sense and intelligence with nonsense.

When you clicked on the submit button, what did you teach me today?

This one line says it all, my friend.  When (if) I grow up I want to be just like you.  :)

C, and how do people not get that once it's out there, it doesn't go away. I agree with Richard, one of your best.

Posted by Connie Harvey, Realtor - Nashville TN Real Estate (Pilkerton Realtors) about 11 years ago

Carol, you should skip me and go straight to Melodious (LMAO). When I grow up I wanna be like mini-me-Mel (ROTFL). ;-)

Richard, thank you for the feature. :-)

Thank you, Connie. People sometimes either don't realize what they have done or don't care. We all have our moments where we wish we could have have a do-over. Sometimes you can't take it back...

Hey Carolyn! I've been busy rolling all my new strategies into a coherent, manageable format and missed a few days in the rain...what an awesome welcome back; this, your most beautifully written "teaching moment" to date. (Well, to MY date.)

It is very easy for me to become depressed by the ease with which folks in this world decide that disrespect and anomosity are actually the same as opening the door to change. They are not...they are the quickest way to slam it shut. Maybe that is their goal. I feel sorry for them.

Recently heard on the news "Anyone with $15 dollars can get a website and say what ever they want to say. That doesn't make it true."

If there was a global MUST READ page, this post would be on it!

The Highway of Self Indulgent Musing can lead many astray while you preen and beam during your arrogant attack of members struggling to survive.

Can I use your line to present to my own cystalker turned mailer?  It sure is hard to be important enough for people to go to great lengths  lol

Wassup SarahGray! Just got in about an hour ago and trying to do a bit of recreational reading. My clients are a hoot. Had fun showing homes and touring neighborhoods. :-)

C-Sally-C, people can be very strange (LOL). This coming from a quirky, strange person (LMAO).

Ann, I do believe I owe you a phone call (LOL). ;-)

Janie, I really do need a vacation (LOL). My clients and I are doing late night so I always get a bit peeved when people act as if what we do is not work...

C, something about this post made my heart beat faster.  It just spoke to me!  We can be sooooo self-indulgent and I hope that when I'm in that mode that at least I'm funny so I don't scare away any more subscribers!

Posted by Patricia Kennedy, Home in the Capital (RLAH Real Estate) about 11 years ago

Patricia, my e-mail is very fascinating. Sometimes people click and sometimes they don't. If you have to scare a few away, scare 'em (LOL). It's a process with some very interesting give and take. ;-)

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 11 years ago

Sometimes I am very torn about "members only" and public.  Last night for instance I wrote a public post that I think the public needs to read, but maybe I should have diabled comments because it makes it more personal than I intended my original post to be.  Gosh you made me think really hard.

By the way... where is the spider web climbing thingy... I LOVE IT.  I want one.

Posted by Tammy Lankford,, Broker GA Lake Sinclair/Eatonton/Milledgeville (Lane Realty Eatonton, GA Lake Sinclair, Milledgeville, 706-485-9668) about 11 years ago

Tammy, transparency is a two edged sword (LOL). The spiderweb is located in the Prospect Park Zoo. I am working on a Zoo Minion presentation and really need to get that done so you guys can hang with the shorties and see some of what they saw. ;-)
