Forever Stamps... A Message From Granny Tann

http://www.usps.com/prices/pricechanges.htm

USPS: "On May 11 the price for a 1-ounce First-Class Mail stamp will increase from 42¢ to 44¢. Prices for other mailing services — Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services (including Parcel Post), and Extra Services — will also change. The average increase by class of mail is at or below the rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index."

What does this mean? It means I don't want flowers, I want stamps. Forever Stamps. With flower designs if you're gonna insist about the flower part. Oh... wait... they only have the Liberty Bell on 'em. Bummer... (LOL)

With a Granny like that, how could I not share this conversation? (LMAO).

So, this is the last day to save 02¢. Did I mention I take after her? I want want stamps, damn it! I do a ton of direct mailings. I don't care about the flowers being a "non-option" for Mother's Day. Seriously... ;-)

There was more banter, but I'm in tears over here. My kids are trying to figure out why I'm still laughing about the hint for a practical gift. Okay, okay, more like a direct missive from granny central (LOL).  I swear I should have recorded that  conversation... A podcast with my upper aged relatives would be very interesting. I shall have to ask them to participate in a conference call. My elderly are a hoot... Seriously.

I keep imagining what I'm gonna be like when I get into my geriactic groove. Wouldn't that make an interesting cartoon? I am sooooo illustrating that (LMAO).

So postage is going up again.  Seems liks just yesterday. . . . .

However, first class postage is still, IMO, the best buy in town.

Carolyn, Thanks for the reminder of the stamps. It also reminded me of when I was 12 and started volunteering at a nursing home. One of my jobs was to go to each resident's room and take their dentures out of the glass of water they put them in and brush them with toothpaste. Seriously!!! At 14, they started paying me and then I got to work in the dining room serving meals and could I ever tell you some stories about that LOL

C, It sounds as tho you never have a dull moment around your house.  Gosh I wonder if I will be like that in a couple of years?

C - I am going to try and get out there today for some stamps. Sound like Granny Starr might have a chance of doing a fruitcake lady kind of thing on Leno's new show.

Whew - I was getting desperate for Mother's Day ideas.  Thanks C.

C...

Thanks for the reminder ... just another example of the government having mixed policies regarding the economy. Why in the world couldn't some of those billions of wasted dollars be used to avert this rate increase.

Postage always seems to go up every year. I have a drawer 1/2 full of old stamps that are no longer enough to send a letter. Yes some are flowers and birds and cars and famous people. The trick is you have to do a lot of math to get the new correct amount of postage. Plus the envelope looks more like a kids art project than a letter once your done. I am with you on the give me forever stamps if you really love me! Good luck!

That's what I buy, need to go get somemore before the expiration date. I hated having to go by 1 cent or 2 cent stamps. The Forever Stamps are awesome.

Thanks for getting the word out.

C - I was just thinking about this yesterday (or actually I was trying to remember when they price was going up). Thanks. Then again, I won't make it to the post office today :( bummer. ~Rita

I actually put word out on Twitter this morning and then I got all wrapped up in what I was doing all day and never got to the post office for myself.  Oh well...

Lenn, I second the motion. :-)

Barb, you are very welcome. :-)

Don, my house is crazy (LOL).

Big Mike, that would be amazing (LOL).

LOL @ Erik. ;-)

Richard, things are really strange right now... I'm busting my butt trying to clear up my bills and the government is busting its butt to create new ones (LOL). What ever happened to balancing the budget? Seriously...

Betina, you and I both. I was thinking I should stick 'em all on an overnight package just to make them crazy trying to cancel out all the stamps (LOL). I know... bad Carol (LMAO).

Missy, those 1 and 2 cent jammies are hard to keep up with. I never find them when I need them (LOL).

Liz, I have got to film my relatives sitting on the porch talking. Seriously... (LOL)

Rita, would you believe I passed three and didn't go into one (LMAO). Every time I thought I was going to the post office my cell phone would ring and I'd go do a showing. I forgot. Bummer...

LOL @ Sharon. I did what you did. I forgot as well. :-)

Gita, that would be mad cool if they did. Then again, it may confuse people. :-)

So did you get the stamps C?  I got a clean house and I like it!  Hope you had a great Mom's Day!

My daughter in law had me run pick her up a couple of books before the rate change.  I bet she doesn't use a hundred stamps a year.  I know I have cut way back on my mailings.  I have heard talk that the PO is considering shorter work weeks for the employees.  I would be fine with delivery every other day or 3 days a week.  Would rather they cut out the junk mail though or raise the rate on it till it dies a natural death.  cw

I had intentions of stocking up, of course I procrastinated, and now have to pay more, and wouldn't you know it I have several events coming up I have to send via snail mail!!

OMG.  I totally missed this.  DUH.  I mailed a letter today 2 cents short...

Posted by Margaret Mitchell, Seacoast Maine & NH Real Estate (Coldwell Banker Yorke Realty) about 11 years ago

LOL @ Margaret M, a few of those actually squeaked through. I guess the workers didn't notice (LOL).

Cindy B, isn't that always the case? People brought them for me as a joke while I myself missed the post office (LOL).

Cheryl W, I've been picking and choosing when to mail, have cut back a bit but still find it necessary to chuck the thank you cards and notes out between massive postcards. :-)

Paddy, my love, got stamps, got gifts, got two closing dates (LOL). Very cool M-Day indeed. :-)

LOL @ Sheila. ;-)

Ann, I was sitting here looking at my 1 and 2 cent books wondering what the heck, didn't we just do this twice? (LOL)
